Every now and then, I come across a winery that makes me wonder how on earth it has managed to stay under the radar. Domaine Jean Javillier & Fils is exactly that—a hidden gem in Meursault that, despite its exceptional wines, remains largely unknown simply because it was barely distributed in France. Guess what?! So far only 5% of the bottles go to the french market.
Ahead of the Time
Bio since 1970
This small, family-run estate sits right across from the legendary Coche-Dury. Founded in 1933, it has been passed down through generations, now managed by Alain Javillier and his brother Thierry.
They craft their wines the way it was done 50 years ago—timeless and true to tradition. The Pinots are elegant and refined, free from excessive extraction and heavy oak. And Meursault? It’s the way it used to be—bold, generous, and full of character.
No employees - No big team
Just how you did it 50 years ago
What makes it even more special is that they were ahead of their time! Converting to organic farming as early as the 1970s, long before sustainability became a trend in Burgundy.
The focus today?
No large volumes – just pure, terroir-driven wines that capture the true essence of Meursault, Volnay and Pommard.
And here’s the thing: They do everything themselves. No employees, no big team – just Jean and Thierry, fully hands-on, tending to every vine, every barrel, every bottle!

Domaine Jean Javellier et Fils
What we have in the box nr. 6:
This box contains FOUR amazing bottles from the Domaine Jean Javillier et Fils. A rare chance to experience the depth and purity of this hidden gem in Meursault. Each wine is a true reflection of its terroir, crafted with low intervention and bio practices. Excatly how they did it 50 years ago.
Volnay Premier Cru „Caillerets“
Often regarded as one of the finest Premier Crus in Volnay, Caillerets is all about finesse and precision. The well-drained, stony soils give this Pinot Noir its signature elegance and vibrant red fruit, floral aromatics, and a refined, silky structure that ages beautifully.
Volnay Premier Cru „Clos des Chênes“
A more structured and powerful Volnay, thanks to its deeper, iron-rich soils. This wine has darker fruit, a firm but polished tannin structure, and incredible depth. Still elegant, but with more intensity and aging potential.
Meursault – Lieu-dit: “ Les Tillets“
A high-altitude vineyard that brings out the fresher, more mineral side of Meursault. This Chardonnay is tense and vibrant, with bright citrus, delicate white flowers, and a touch of salinity that makes it incredibly precise and energetic. The Les Tillets parcel borders the famous Meursault Narvaux, a Premier Cru appellation.
Meursault Village
The classic Meursault expression. Rich and layered with ripe stone fruit, hazelnut, and a beautifully creamy texture, all balanced by the signature freshness and minerality of the appellation.
