Silvaner Grauer Stein 2023
Carsten Saalwächter - Ingelsheim, Rheinhessen
Forget everything you thought you knew about Silvaner.
This is the kind of wine that makes you question what’s actually in your glass. I’ve tasted Carsten’s Grauer Stein blind and genuinely mistaken it for wines from some of Burgundy’s most celebrated producers. And once you taste it, you’ll understand why.
Grown on grey limestone in Ingelheim, from vines approaching 50 years of age, the 2023 Grauer Stein spends almost two years in large oak barrels. The result is a wine of extraordinary depth and precision.
Subtle reduction, crushed limestone, quince and a touch of yellow apple. On the palate, it’s all about tension: incredible concentration, beautiful acidity, a fine phenolic grip and a long, almost electric, salty finish. Powerful without ever feeling heavy, complex without trying too hard.
This isn’t just a great Silvaner. It’s a seriously great white wine. Period..
Pernand-Vergelesses “Les Combottes” 2023

Some winemakers just keep you coming back for more. Seiichi Saito is one of them.
I’ve been following Petit Roy for years, and what I love most is watching Seiichi continue to explore, refine and develop his own unmistakable style. His wines have always had something special, and his latest releases are particularly exciting.
His 2023 Les Combottes is a beautiful expression of Chardonnay from Pernand-Vergelesses. Think vibrant citrus, delicate white fruit, a touch of subtle reduction and a lovely mineral tension. There’s real depth here, but also an incredible sense of freshness and precision. Everything comes together in a beautifully balanced, elegant Chardonnay with a long, saline finish.
It’s a wine that rewards attention. The more time you give it in the glass, the more it reveals.
La Moiré 2024
Maison Glandien - Rully, Burgundy
While the world keeps chasing Burgundy’s most famous Chardonnays, Tino Kuban is busy making a serious case for its often underestimated little brother. And La Moiré is a beautiful example of just how much this grape has to offer.
Coming from a northwest-facing vineyard in Cheilly-lès-Maranges, where Aligoté vines planted in 1991 grow on shallow limestone and clay soils, this is a wine with serious personality.
A beautiful reductive edge opens up to reveal vibrant lime, grapefruit and delicate white fruit. There’s depth and texture from the élevage, but also incredible freshness, mineral tension and a long, almost salty finish. Everything feels precise, energetic and beautifully balanced.
What makes La Moiré so exciting is that it doesn’t try to be Chardonnay. It doesn’t need to. Tino gives Aligoté the same attention, ambition and uncompromising approach he brings to all his wines, allowing the grape to show its own extraordinary character.
Forget the idea of Aligoté as Burgundy’s simple little white wine. This one has much bigger ambitions.
Give it some air, pour it into a proper Burgundy glass and prepare to rethink everything you thought you knew about Aligoté.
LA CRUCI 2024
Maison Glandien – Meursault, Burgundy
Chardonnay meets Pinot Blanc. Tiny production, serious élevage.
A blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Blanc from a west to north-facing vineyard in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, planted in 1982 on clay-limestone soils. The grapes are picked in the cool morning hours and pressed directly in a basket press. After settling overnight in stainless steel, the juice and lees are transferred to Stockinger barrels for spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and without sulphur. The 2024 was produced in just 4.5 pièces, with 65% new oak.
La Cruci 2024 is one of the more structured and ambitious whites of Maison Glandien. The Chardonnay brings depth, tension and drive, while the Pinot Blanc adds texture and a slightly broader, more generous side. There is plenty of concentration, but also freshness and this salty, stony finish that keeps the wine incredibly alive.
Only 4.5 barrels produced. A tiny Hautes-Côtes de Nuits cuvée with serious depth and energy.
